Combining Sixteenth Notes

The following rhythms use combinations of the five most common divisions of the beat with rests and ties.

This rhythm uses an eighth note with two sixteenth notes on the first beat, a sixteenth rest on the second beat followed by three sixteenth notes, an eighth note with two sixteenth notes on the third beat and on the fourth beat is a group of four sixteenth notes. The last sixteenth of the third beat is tied to the first sixteenth of the fourth beat. Watch video.

 

This rhythm uses two sixteenth and an eighth note on the first beat, a sixteenth rest on the second beat followed by three sixteenth notes, two sixteenth and an eighth note on the third beat, and groups of four sixteenth notes on the fourth beat. The eighth note on the upbeat of three is tied to the first sixteenth of the fourth beat. Watch video.

 

This rhythm uses a sixteenth, eighth and sixteenth on the first beat, a sixteenth rest on the second beat followed by three sixteenth notes, a sixteenth, eighth and sixteenth on the third beat and on the fourth beat is a group of four sixteenth notes. The last sixteenth of the third beat is tied to the first sixteenth of the fourth beat. Watch video.

 

   

This rhythm uses a dotted eighth and sixteenth note on the first beat, a sixteenth rest on the second beat followed by three sixteenth notes, a dotted eighth and sixteenth note on the third beat, and on the fourth beat is a group of four sixteenth notes. The last sixteenth of the third beat is tied to the first sixteenth of the fourth beat. Watch video.
