Combining quarter notes, eighth notes, rests and ties. Watch video.

As you continue through the course always keep in mind the most important element in basic rhythm for strumming on the guitar which is moving your arm with a steady continuous motion from the elbow.

 

This rhythm uses a quarter note on the first beat, a quarter rest on the second beat, pairs of eighth notes on the third and fourth beats. The eighth note on the upbeat of three is tied to the down beat of four. Watch video.

 

 

This rhythm uses a quarter note on the first beat, an eighth rest on the down beat of two followed by an eighth note on the upbeat, a pair of eighth notes on the third beat and a quarter note on the fourth beat. The eighth note on the upbeat of two is tied to the downbeat of three. Watch video.

 

 

This rhythm is similar to the one above only a pair of eighth notes are added on the fourth beat. Also, the eighth note on the upbeat of three is tied to the down beat of four. Watch video.
